Smoking Bans
Smokers are dumb! asked:

Ottawa was one of the first cities in Canada to ban smoking in public places. One single hospital said that they would save $50000 per year (thats only one hospital). But they said that if the smoking ban was implemented now, savings would not be realized for another 5 years.

They lose money in the U.S.

Edit: V In Canada they have socialized heath care.

I don’t understand how hospitals can save money because there are fewer smokers. I should think they more smokers, the more money. Unless of course you folks treat them for free.

They are lying and more people die from diarrhea a yr then smoking
If its so bad then the government should stop blowing the tax money they collect and spend it on getting people to quit instead of blowing it
Its just a way for them to charge losts of money with a cause and knowing that many poeple smoked it gets them off the hook for collecting and keeping instead of paying and treating , administrators make millions and that is part of the high cost

Okay I call that a good money and health saving device, and it’s sensible. Here in ‘Swindon’, Wiltshire. The premium is to raise money is on car parking charges, and how!! (Indiscriminately).

The place concerned, is “The Great Western Hospital” . Where 14 nurses were slapped with £50 parking fines, two day’s ago, and this is not the first time other nurses have been occasioned likewise.

Nurses who live at excessive distances need to run a car to work, (these nurses would need to change buses twice, there and back.)

They have to pay £60. for a yearly car permit. These poor woman come to work and there is no staff places left, so the are forced
to go into visitors parking places, to get fined.

There are 16 buses to run 3,400 staff to work, either on car share,or using their cycles. This hospital , along with Swindon Council parking
Wardens are reckoned to charge the highest fines in the country, according to a TV documentary. ****Profits shared!!

This Hospital was built as as replacement for “The Princess Margaret”
in Swindon, though a beautiful building, there is far less bed spaces in this hospital, with an expanding population, built in the middle of nowhere.

But the problem is the Council and hospital administration. They have no common sense and are ridge-d with rules and regulations.

    Pee – Wee

Probably very little. The one thing that all of the glorious anti-smoker (oops, sorry anti-smoking) statistics seem to miss out is that non-smokers get sick and die too. Often taking far longer (and thus costing more) than smokers do.
