Electric Cigarette
Matt asked:

In a nutshell…

1. It’s not actually smoke you’re inhaling. It’s vaporizes pure liquid nicotine into a puff of steam
2. It’s nothing but nicotine
3. It’s rechargeable
4. It seems safer than cigarettes today.

What’s your personal intake on this?

Seems like it may be a good alternative but the smoking haters will find something wrong with it. And how will all the pharmaceutical companies make money with their quit smoking medicine if people use that instead? Don’t the pharmaceutical companies fund the groups who are against smoking?

I think it’s a cool idea. Remove the carcinogens and keep the buzz. No smoke= no second hand smoke. What is there to complain about?

It looks like an interesting alternative to a habit millions have. I havent seen the prices yet and didtn look at the link, but have seen articles on it. I think any alternative to help is great.
If its not too pricey I may consider it myself someday after more is known about it.

I will be that fly in the soup.
There is the upside of getting rid of the other harmful elements but there are also side effects, problems that a standard cigarette doesn’t have.
“It is not harmful to them or to the people around them – there is no worry of passive smoking”
“The small white stick contains a chamber that vapourises pure liquid nicotine into a puff of steam.”
So that steam contains the pure nicotine that is highly addictive. But what happens to that steam when the “smoker” blows it out? Just disperses? I would imagine that the air of a pub with 50 electric cigarette smokers would fill with the steam containing the addictive nicotine pretty fast.
There is also the little problem with the toxicity of liquid nicotine.
“Spilling an extremely high concentration of nicotine onto the skin can result in intoxication or even death since nicotine readily passes into the bloodstream from dermal contact.”
Just imagine people who want to see what’s inside that magic stick or want to see how much effect that liquid has on them if they drink it(they would say that if they smoke it, why would it be harmful if they drink it?).
I think that tobacco companies just can’t accept the fact that cigarettes are getting banned from more and more places and they are trying to keep their profits.
Another problem with this is that people won’t use it because it is still far more expensive than regular cigarette($50 for the starter pack, $8 for 3 cartridges) while standard cigarette prices range from 3 to x dollars. It will be the choice of those who want to get rid of the smell. An upside to this is smokers can smoke at home without turning their home into a cigarette smelling rat hole. Or can they? What does this new technology “smells” like?
That Gamucci ad is upsetting because by stating “Stylish: The electric cigarette is appealing to the younger generation”, it promotes youngsters to use this new cool “safe” cigarette. They forget to mention that the addictive effect will be the same. Other bullsht is “Smokers can inhale the vapours as they would a cigarette smoke and still get the buzz – without taking in any harmful substances”.
Like nicotine would be something harmless and not a total health risk.
So in the end, what is the advantage of this new technology?
+ pure nicotine without other admixture(so they claim), not that smelly(?)
    - more addictive, using high concentration of lethal liquid nicotine, smoke = steam so pure nicotine can spread in the air and increasing the effect of second hand smoking, expensive, it can raise a new generation of addicts since it claims to be safer.

    IMO.
