What is up with all these smoking bans all over the United States?
Jaime asked:
Its not just in the U.S., other countries are having them too. I don’t smoke but if people want to smoke then they should. I mean its their body and they know the consequences of smoking already.

It is for the common good of all, especially the employees of establishments where people have smoked in the past. Those who want to **** cancer should do so only in the privacy of their own environment. The smoking ban goes into effect here in 6 more hours, I cannot wait.
Smoking is disgusting and I’m glad that people are being forbidded from smoking near me.
Why should anyone be allowed to emit clouds of noxious gas wherever they want? They shouldn’t!
The smoking bans only affect smoking in public, where other people breathe your smoke. Go into your own house and smoke all you want, no one cares. Like you said, they know the consequences. But if other people are affected, the government can and must step in.
I disagree.
First of all, there is nothing more repulsive to me, than to look in the car next to me, and see a mother smoking with her kids in the car. Second, with Pueblo, Colorado posting a 40% decrease in heart attacks in the last 3 years, this shows that second-hand smoke may be a contributing factor. Finally, smokers’ health care is driving MY healthcare costs through the roof! I work with smokers, and because I do, my healthcare costs per month are the same as a smoker, even though I don’t smoke.
Smokers are more susceptible to the flu, pneumonia, and colds. It is harder for them to rid their lungs of infection, and it is also harder for their children to recover from illnesses. This isn’t including the cancer treatments.
Their actions affect others and should be controlled.
By the way, if a woman smokes while she is pregnant, her child will be more prone to drug and alcohol abuse, and has a 78% chance of having ADHD.
Please tell me how this isn’t hurting anyone?
ask a liberal
they think they no what people should do
and not care about any ones rights to be free
I quit smoking 20 years ago……I think it is an invasion of ME, when smoking around me….
I have to give some credit to smokers…..I would have done anything to have my cigarette..
Its an addiction, and be treated as such…
If only we could ban so easily all those pesky power houses, SUV owners and factories emitting all that noxious gas into our atmosphere. All about the $$$
Insurance companies lobby the legislature to get their way. Smokers are a bad risk and they can forget to mention they smoke on their application.
Basically it’s caused by a bunch of pseudo-religious proselytizing busybodies who have nothing better to do with their time, who go around making long speeches and bitching all day about nonsense, and forming contradictory statements like:
“Their actions affect others and should be controlled.”
Yeah, real genius statement there. Normally when someone is affecting me, I leave their presence (I don’t try to “control” them by pulling out a gun and popping a cap in their ass). Normally if someone who OWNS THE BUSINESS and chooses to allow people to smoke in THEIR ESTABLISHMENT because they OWN IT; normally, if I don’t like that, I DON’T FREQUENT THEIR ESTABLISHMENT. It’s called common sense.
Let me tell you about something far more dangerous than smoking, a far greater threat to my liberty and peace of mind. It’s jerks like the one quoted above who go to the ballot box in order to vote to force others to subscribe to their religion and appreciate their obviously exaggerated sense of entitlement and delicate sensibilities.
Of course it will never occur to them that they have a RESPONSIBILITY to protect their own sanctum sanctorum, so instead they’ll just keep whining and bitching until they get what they want.
They are generally very miserable people, and it really irks them that someone else would be happy with their own choices. People like this are a threat to liberty everywhere. They won’t be satisfied with even a complete ban on smoking. Next thing you know they’ll be petitioning again the government to ban fat people and fatty foods so that they don’t have to pay more for health insurance, and that’s only where it begins.
I’d rather die of lung cancer than live an additional 7 years with cancerous people like that.
