All e-cigarettes I know of are made in China. Only some companies like Cloud 9, Amerismoke, or eSmoke have cartridges filled with USA made smoke juice.
I love my ecigs: I think they taste better than tobacco cigs and you are correct that they do not contain tar.
Take a look at this buying guide. It lists various brands, their features, and real user reviews (not fake promotional 5 star reviews).
Make sure you read through the entire guide below the table. You will learn a lot about ecigs.

I highly recommend a two-piece design like the Green Smoke. It looks just like a regular cigarette and three-piece designs are a pain to deal with, can be leaky, and the atomizers are expensive.
There is no tar or chemicals and cancer causing agents. Simply a vapor made up of propylene glycol (which is found in many foods and products), water and/or nicotine at the level of mg your choice or none at all.
Read the review in my source box below, they have a huge customer base that the majority seems to be very satisfied along with myself as well for over a year now. I originally tried SmokeStik they are a little cheaper but it didn’t work as good.
The only one I know of are BLU Cigs. I smoke it and it is definitely a quality product. It actually received the Golden Cigarette Award from Perfect Electronic Cigarettes. Plus I was able to buy the starter kit for only $60. It sounds like a lot but you won’t find a better price for its quality. Many ecigs are over $100 like the GreenSmoke and are poor quality. I made the mistake of buying that without checking out what else was out there.
